Allentown is a city of collaboration, opportunity, and innovation.

Meet Allentown Works - a new program that is unlocking the power of our community by removing barriers and building bridges to economic opportunity, education and training, and job stability that will help individuals and families thrive.

Allentown Works is a connector between the City of Allentown, Allentown Economic Development Corporation (AEDC), local employers, nonprofits, institutions, community organizations, and you! Together, we will support Allentonians in accessing high-quality childcare, workforce training, education, enhanced transportation options, and local jobs to help Allentown work better for everyone.

Allentown Works is removing barriers to employment by leveraging the opportunity, collaboration, and connections within our community to help us advance together.

The Initiative

Allentown Works focuses on four critical strategies to remove barriers to employment, enhance economic opportunity, provide job stability, and increase access to services:

  1. Facilitate local Employment
  2. Expand access to affordable High-Quality Childcare
  3. Invest in Transportation Options
  4. Connect to careers in high-opportunity industries

Through these four strategies, Allentown Works will address barriers that prevent our community from entering or advancing in the workforce including high childcare costs, transportation challenges, and skill gaps. Allentown Works is a comprehensive 5-year program that partners with local employers, service providers, institutions, nonprofits, and our larger community to close employment gaps and build bridges to economic opportunity through tailored programs, training, and supportive services. Together, we are making Allentown WORK for you!

Metrics

Allentown Works’ programs and resources are built to remove the barriers that limit growth and opportunity for our community. By 2030, the Allentown Works program will connect over 650 prime-age residents to good-paying jobs, prioritizing high-opportunity local industries such as manufacturing and healthcare. By connecting residents to employment, both individual and household incomes will rise and the prime age employment gap (PAEG) will be reduced in the priority neighborhoods of Franklin Park, Center City, and the 1st and 6th  Wards, by nearly 60%.

We are committed to continually measuring and evaluating the success and impact of our programs to ensure they are working to address the everyday challenges, needs, and opportunities in our communities.
